[Also in Division F2] A fastener for gripping smooth cylindrical shanks such as spindles. shafts and studs by the tips 12 of its inclined fingers 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, which tips define an aperture, has a spring sheet body 17 of a part-cylindrical curvature and the fingers 11, 11<SP>1</SP> form a frusto-conically dished portion. The radius of curvature of the body is smaller than that of the cylindrical surface (10), Fig. 2 (not shown), against which it is used. The arcuate tips 12 of the tapering fingers 11, 11<SP>1</SP> may be serrated and lie on a notional circle drawn on the surface of a notional cylinder (16) coaxial with the body 17. The inclination of the fingers 11 on the straight axis of the body 17 is greater than that of the fingers 11<SP>1</SP> on the curved flanks.
