Abstract
1429660 Continuous electro-chemical treatment of strip HOECHST AG 11 July 1973 [13 July 1972] 33087/73 Heading C7B Metal (e.g. Al, Cu or steel) strip 1 is electrochemically treated, e.g. cleaned, descaled, roughened, then anodized, etched or plated, guided, e.g. over rollers 9-11, through an electrolyte bath 2 having at least two compartments, e.g. chamber 6 and main space 3 of the bath, and provided with at least one electrode 7, the strip travelling past the or each electrode through at least one duct 5, e.g. one upstream and on downstream of roller 10 each formed by outer wall 4 and electrode 7, providing communication between two different compartments of the bath e.g. through slots 8, the liquid levels in the different compartments being maintained different, e.g. by pumping liquid through pipes 12, 16. The separate chamber 6, ducts 5 and rollers 9-11 may be one unit for raising from the bath 2. An electrolyte cooler 17 may be provided. The duct(s) may be arranged horizontally between at least two guide rollers in the electrolyte bath Fig. 2 (not shown). A C.D. of 2 to 150 A/dm<SP>2</SP> may be used. A.C. or D.C. may be used.
