Abstract

1429626 Bulk material processing apparatus WATFORD ENG LTD 14 March 1973 [25 March 1972] 14135/72 Heading B1C Bulk material processing apparatus comprises a tubular housing 46 a rotary shaft 48 extending therethrough and whioh has blade 56 and impellers 60, 61 spaced along the shaft which effect breaking and dispersion of the material being processed as it passes through the housing, and means to control the discharge of the material from one end of the housing to maintain a substantially constant pressure in the housing. The material is fed, in the form of a slurry, to the housing by way of two inclined extractor conveyors 10 and 12 each of which includes a screw conveyor the water being drained off from the material by the action of gravity and by the squeezing actions of the screw as the material rises. The material is then discharged into a housing 44 to which the tubular housing 46 is attached, and which has a screw conveyor 58 supported on the shaft 48. The conveyor initiating the continuous movement and supply of material through the tubular housing 46 and which is maintained by the impellers 60, 61. The discharge outlet 63 of the housing 46 is controlled by a valve 62 which is actuated from a transducer 70 connected to the drive motor 64 of the shaft 48, the current required by the motor being directly related to the pressure in the housing and the current variations are adapted to control the operation of the valve. A plurality of steam inlets are provided in the housing 46 for the supply of steam to the material during the process. In an alternative embodiment Fig. 4 the valve at the end of the housing 46 is replaced by a screw conveyor 106 the rotation of which is controlled to control the disoharge of the material to maintain the pressure requirements in the housing 46, the control is effected sensing the motor currents of the motors 64, and 104 driving the conveyor and the shaft 48.
