Abstract
1429375 Stress limiting devices COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 14 June 1974 [29 June 1973] 31000/73 Heading B8B A protective device (shown exploded in Fig. 1) for flexible supply lines, includes a guide 4, a mounting 2, mounted on the guide 4, locating means 10 for a supply line (e.g. an electric power cable 16 for a movable mineral mining machine), the locating means 10 being movable relative to the mounting 2, resilient biasing means 8 and a connector 17 on the locating means 10 adapted for connection in use to a control of the machine. In use the device is connected to a cut-out for the machine by a chain with a certain amount of slack (not shown) and above a certain load on the cable 16 the connection 17 trips the cut-out thus stopping the machine from further movement. Once the cause of the excessive load is removed the biasing means 8 restores the slack in the chain. In the embodiment illustrated a water supply hose is protected by further locating means 22, retaining plate 24 and biasing spring 20.
