Abstract

1389736 Taking up slack in flexible elements JOY MFG CO (UK) Ltd 31 May 1973 [9 May 1972] 21500/72 Heading B8B An arrangement for taking up slack in a power supply cable 12 for a mining machine 11 reciprocable along a conveyer structure 10, wherein the cable 12 extends between a fixed point 13 on the structure 10 and the movable machine 11, comprises a slide 17 through which the cable 12 is looped and which reciprocates along part of the conveyer structure 10 at half the speed of the machine 11. The machine is connected to a drive chain 14 extending between sprockets 15, 16 at the ends of the structure 10, and a wire 22 connected at one end 24 to the structure 10 and at the other end 23 to the chain 14 is looped around an idler pulley 25 on the structure 10 and around a pulley 21 on the slide 17 to control movement of the latter. The coupling 24 includes a spring for tensioning the wire 14. The slide 17 includes a set of rollers 12a for guiding the cable 12 and slidably engages a longitudinal plate on the conveyer structure.
