1429252 Making sample plates; gas cutting KAWASAKI JUKOGYO KK and KAWASAKI STEEL CORP 25 Sept 1973 [25 Sept 1972] 44965/73 Headings B3A and B3V A transfer machine, which automatically marks, cuts and sorts a number of test material sample plates, includes a conveyer 7, Fig. 1, which intermittently feeds the plates past equally spaced work stations 3 to 6 in a processing line. The machine may have two such processing lines controlled by a common encoder 8 fed with a tape input. At station 3, information such as plate number is marked on an initial plate, while at station 4 a gas cutter cuts the plate laterally into sample pieces. The pieces are slit longitudinally at station 5 and sorted according to size at station 6. The operation of the marking, cutting, slitting and sorting machines is controlled automatically by sequence circuits 12-12<SP>111</SP> fed by decoders 11-11<SP>111</SP>. The decoders are supplied with signals by parallel shift registers 10 from memory devices 9. The encoder 8 also controls the supply of plates from a preparation stage 1 to a switch 2 supplying the two conveyers 7. A plate is fed to the processing line in which all the steps have first been completed, a priority circuit 14 determining this fact. The cutting and slitting devices 4 and 5, Fig. 4, are controlled by the outputs of decoders 11<SP>1</SP> and 11<SP>11</SP> according to the thickness, hardness and pattern number of the plates. The diameter of the gas nozzles 5<SP>1</SP>, their height above a plate 15, and their gas pressure, are correspondingly selected.
