Abstract

1429160 Preventing vapour locks in fuel systems THERMO KING CORP 27 Feb 1974 [7 March 1973] 8823/74 Heading F1B An arrangement for removing gas from a liquid fuel system of a diesel engine including a fuel receiver and a fuel supply circuit, the arrangement comprising a confined fluid-flow path 48 extending in a downward curve to the fluid receiver 50 and connected at its upper end to the fuel supply circuit, the path 48 permitting simultaneous downward and upward flows therethrough of liquid fuel and gas respectively and being characterized in that the coupling means comprises a conduit 32 connected at one end thereof to the fuel supply and conduit means 35 connected to the downwardly sloping fluid-flow path at substantially the highest point thereof, said conduit extending through said conduit means to, and having its other end in communication with, said fluid-flow path and said conduit means having a gas outlet port and internal passage means providing communication between said gas outlet port and substantially said highest point of said downwardly sloping fluid-flow path. Fuel is drawn from a tank by pump 16 and pumped through first and second filters 24 and 26 into a conduit 32 which passes through a T-connector 35 and tubular connector 34 and opens into pipe 48. Air separates from the fuel in pipe 48, passes through clearance 55 into chamber 56 and then into pipe 44 which leads to the air space above the fuel in the main tank. When all the air has been removed from the system, some fuel will be returned to the tank through pipe 44.
