1428924 Submersible pumps SIEMENS AG 11 Feb 1974 [13 Feb 1973] 06195/74 Heading F1C A submersible pump having a motor portion and a pump portion with a support pipe (3) Fig. 1 (not shown) and a delivery pipe (4) comprises a rotor having a clearance S with an adjacent housing wall which is equal to or greater than 0.03 times the outer diameter D of the rotor, and in which, in use of the pump, the ratio of the relative outlet speed of the medium being delivered to the peripheral speed of the rotor is equal to or less than 0.02 at a specific speed of 10 and rising linearly to equal to or less than 0.06 up to a specific speed of 50. The relative output speed is derived from the rate of delivery volume divided by the area of the surface defined by the product of the sum of the circumferential gaps a between adjacent tips of the vanes of the rotor multiplied by the sum of the axial extent b, of the rotor plus the axial clearance S. The housings of the pump and motor and the support and discharge pipes may be pressure die cast or injection moulded.
