Abstract

1428250 Shopping trollies H BURCH 27 Dec 1973 [30 Dec 1972] 59759/73 Heading B7B [Also in Division E2] A shopping trolley has an open goods receptacle 2 and a lockable compartment 4, the door 6 of which is closable by the user but is openable only at specific locations by a key or by electronic or magnetic means independent of the user. The door is urged to the open position by a spring 5 and is locked by the engagement of a spring loaded bolt 8, on its interior surface, with a blade 9 within the compartment. The bolt is bevelled at 10 to facilitate manual closing. An electromagnet 11 is operatively associated with the bolt and roller contacts 12 which at specific locations, for example at a cash desk, engage floor mounted electrical conductors (14) (Fig. 3, not shown). Current supplied to the electromagnet from the floor conductors causes withdrawal of the bolt and spring 5 urges the door open. The door may be pivoted about a vertical or horizontal axis.
