Abstract

1427919 Feeding sheets IMAGING TECHNOLOGY Ltd 19 June 1973 [19 June 1972] 28663/72 Heading B8R Sheets are separated from a pile in a magazine 1 by suction applied through an axial row of openings 8 in a roller 2. When an air blower is started, air is drawn through the openings 8 and blown through a pipe 5 and through holes in a front plate 4 of the magazine to expand the pile and draw the first sheet against the openings 8, which are in a flattened portion of the roller at an angle to the plane of the sheets in the pile when the roller is in the initial position shown, so as to flex the end of the first sheet and draw it above the plate 4. When a sheet covers the openings 8, reduced pressure in the roller actuates a switch to start a motor and rotate the roller 2 to carry the sheet between the rollers 2 and a roller 11 and on to bands 10 entrained in grooves in the roller 2. The suction in the openings 8 is cut off when the holes are to the right of a partition 14. For use with sheets of lesser width, the endmost openings 8 can be blanked off by rotatable valve tubes in the roller 2, attached to a selector lever settable in two positions. The pile may alternatively be arranged with the sheets vertical or for bottom feed.
