Abstract

1427472 Seats; racks; tip-up seats; connecting seats in rows AMERICAN SEATING CO 10 May 1974 [12 July 1973] 20788/74 Headings A4B A4H A4J and A4U A stackable chair comprises a first tubular frame 21 formed in two halves welded together, each half providing a curved horizontal back support portion 33, an armrest 32, downwardly and rearwardly inclined armrest support 31 and rear leg 30, a horizontal floor runner 29, inwardly offset and upwardly and rearwardly inclined forward leg 28, and a horizontal portion 27 welded to the juncture between the armrest support 31 and rear leg 30. In the embodiment shown, a seat support frame (25) is pivotally secured to the frame 21 and carries a tip-up plastics seat 24. In a modification Fig. 19 (not shown), the first frame includes a curved rear seat support portion (140), and the seat support frame (126) carrying the plastics seat is welded to the first frame. A curved plastics back panel 23 is secured to back support portions 33, (34). A dolly (92), Fig. 5 (not shown) may be provided for the stacked chairs. A plurality of chairs may be connected in a row by complementary hooked couplings 68, (69) on the rear legs. The two halves of the first frame are connected by tubular brace members (22). Armrest pads 113, 114 may be secured to the armrests 32, 35.
