Abstract
1278727 Stackable chairs; securing chairs together in rows DESIGN FURNITURE Ltd 19 April 1971 [17 April 1970] 18597/70 Headings A4H and A4U A chair designed for stacking and for interlocking with an adjacent similar chair has four straight legs shaped for interlocking along at least the major part of their length and a seat that does not extend sideways beyond a line joining the top inner edges of the legs at each side. In the form shown, the seat comprises a frame 1, 2 with an upholstered seat member 4 and four legs 5 each of a cross-section providing a groove 10 and tongue 11 of complementary form, the grooves on one side facing one another and those on the other side, as shown, facing away from each other, so that adjacent chairs can be interengaged by lowering one in contact with the other, preferably facilitated by upward convergence of the legs. The chair is provided with a plywood back 7 providing a book rest 8 and a portion 9 for supporting a book or the arms of a person seated behind; an upholstered pad 9<SP>1</SP> is provided. The back of the chair may be narrower than the seat to provide space for arm-rests. Another form Fig. 4 (not shown), is designed for the seat and legs to be integrally moulded in plastics, preferably foamed polystyrene or polyurethane.
