Abstract

1339190 Chairs convertible to beds; upholstery DURA-FOLD MACHINE WORKS. Inc 29 Oct 1971 50391/71 Headings A4J and A4M A chair which is convertible into a chaise longue or a bed has a backrest frame 12 pivotally mounted on a seat frame 14 about an axis 58 and a foot-rest frame 16 horizontally slidable in a slideway defined by channel members 34 which form part of the seat frame, the backrest being locked in one of a number of positions by the engagement of spring biased retractable locking rods 62 in one of a number of holes 82 in members 24 of the seat frame. The foot rest frame has wedge-shaped side members 90 which define an upwardly and forwardly cushion supporting surface seat, back and foot rest cushions 20, 18 and 22 respectively, each comprise polyurethane foam in an impervious vinyl covering with an opening for restricted flow of air into and out of the cushion when weight is taken off the cushion or applied thereto, the opening comprising a reentrant fold 108 and overlapped flaps 104, 106. The foam of the seat and backrest cushions is supported by plywood or the like.
