1427285 Scaling fish A SIMARD 15 July 1974 31235/74 Heading A2U A fish scaling machine comprises a framework 15, a horizontally disposed conveyor 27 adapted to receive one side of a fish and transport it head or tail leading, a series of descaler rolls 51, 65, 75 spaced along the conveyor and journalled on said framework on axes at right angles to the direction of transport, adapted to engage said one side of said fish, removing the scales therefrom as the fish is fed thereover in a continuous manner, and a hold down and guide mechanism yieldably engaging the other side of said fish comprising a pair of spaced horizontally disposed rails 95, mounted on said framework and spaced from said descaler rolls, a series of spaced rock shafts 97 transverse to and journalled on said rails, a series of inclined overlapping blades 100 spaced above and extending downstream along said conveyor, opposite sides of each being inclined downstream towards said conveyor and the leading portion of each blade converging towards said conveyor to engage said other side of said fish, a series of support bars 107, each overlying and being secured at one end to one of said blades and its other end extending upstream to a rock shaft and secured thereto and a series of spring means 117, one interconnecting each support bar to one of said rails, whereby said blades yieldably and guidably engage said fish for movement in a rectilinear direction.
