Abstract
1426854 Hydraulic mining RHEINSTAHL AG 10 Jan 1974 [15 Feb 1973] 01291/74 Heading E1F Mineral is mined from a face extending between two face access ways by a jet or jets of high pressure water issuing from one or more nozzles so mounted on a support that the jets can mine mineral from the entire face, the support being such that it has a U-shaped cross section opening towards the face and extends the full length of the face out into the accessways where it is connected to traction means located in said ways so that it can be advanced towards the face by said traction means. The support may be formed by two sections pivotally or telescopically connected together at the middle of the web. The upper surface of the structure is so inclined that falling roof material is deflected to the goaf. The nozzles may be mounted directly on the support at one or both of the leading structure, the mounting means being such as to permit of reciprocable or pivotal movement of the nozzles in respect of the structure. The nozzles may be mounted on a ploughing carriage that can be slid to and fro along the support and is configured to load mined material onto the upper surface of the lower arm of the support for conveyance therealong by either the paddle flights of a conveyer system incorporated in the support or by water delivered onto the surface from nozzles on the carriage. The angle of presentation of the support to a face can be varied by a device located in an accessway acting on an arm integral with a portion of the support extending into the accessway. Echo sounding means can be provided for measuring the spacing between the support and a fixed point in each accessway and the measured values are used by suitable means to control the traction means to regulate the advance of the support so as to maintain a desired line of a face.
