Abstract
1426553 Mixing foam materials BRITISH INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS LTD 5 March 1973 [24 March 1972] 13817/72 Heading B1C In the preparation of material such as foamed plastics two constituents, one of which is foamed are supplied to a mixing head 10 by way of separate ports 11 and 12, port 11 being connected to a sleeve 14 in the head 10 and port 12 being connected to an annular chamber 13 which surrounds the sleeve 14. One of the constituents is supplied under pressure through the port 11 and forms a core of moving material through the sleeve. The second constituent is supplied under pressure to the port 12 and the chamber 13 and to an annular nozzle region A formed by a flexible tail pipe 19 whose inner wall is contiguous with the outer wall of the sleeve 14. The pressure of the second constituent displaces the region A to form an annular nozzle 21 which passes an annular stream of the second constituent about the core. The velocities of the two constituents are different as maybe their viscosities which causes mixing of the two materials downstream of the region A of the head 10. In an alternative embodiment an internal flexible sleeve 22 is located within the head 10' and which is displaced along the region 3 when the constituent is fed into port 12' as the core constituent is supplied by way of part 15'.
