Abstract

1426428 Vehicle seats E LORD and A PICKERING 21 March 1973 [22 March 1972] 13383/72 Heading A4J A vehicle seat 12 is rotatable about a vertical off-set axis 14 such that the seat when mounted in a vehicle may be moved to a position in which the front edge of the seat extends over the door sill of the vehicle to help an invalid enter or alight from the vehicle. The seat 12 is mounted on an upper frame 30 rotatable relative to a lower frame 34 and is locked in the vehicle in a forwardly facing position by engagement of a plate 54 on the lower frame with a slot 52 in a spring-biased lever 50 pivotally connected to the upper frame. The lower frame may be slidably mounted in the vehicle. The pivotal mounting about which the upper frame is rotatable relative to the lower frame may be provided with a rack and pinion Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), or piston and cylinder unit to enable height adjustment of the seat to the effected. Alternatively the upper frame may be pivotally connected to four links 60 pivotally connected to a floor support 64, the rear links being rigid with a handle 66 which may be moved downwardly to cause pivoting of the links and hence height adjustment of the seat. A footrest 58 which is pivotable to a vertical inoperative position may be provided at the front of the seat.
