Abstract

1426104 Glass insulated micro-wire KISHINEVSKY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT ELEKTROPRIBOROSTROENIA 1 Feb 1973 [4 Feb 1972] 5108/73 Heading C1M A method of producing a cast, glass-insulated microwire comprises heating a metal charge in a glass tube using a high frequency field in a melting zone to metal in the tube within the melting zone and retain the molten metal within the melting zone, continuing the heating of the molten metal at a temperature above the melting temperature of the metal with simultaneous drawing of a glass capillary from said glass tube while feeding the said glass tube into the melting zone for a period to stabilize the composition of the molten metal and without drawing molten metal from the molten charge, and thereafter drawing molten metal charge into the glass capillary while the capillary is being drawn and after the temperature of the molten metal has fallen, the glass tube being fed into the melting zone prior to stabilization of the molten metal at a rate such that an area free from glass or oxide film is formed on the top surface of the molten metal. The metal is preferably a Cu-Mn-Ni alloy. The molten metal may be heated at a temperature 8-16% higher than the metal melting temperature for a period of at least 35 minutes before drawing of metal is effected. Thicknesses of the core and the insulation are specified. The Specification also refers to their being a vacuum in the glass tube.
