Abstract

1425186 Mining conveyers GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA 4 May 1973 [5 May 1972 15 July 1972] 21284/73 Heading B8A Hydraulically operated tension means 21-25 is attached by a bracket 26 to a channel section 10 of a longwall conveyer but the tension means operates only when roof props 12 to which the means is connected, reach a predetermined setting pressure. The tension means includes a piston-cylinder unit 22 and is connected to an anchor beam 17 movable transversely of the length of the conveyer by a ram 18 which is controlled by a sensing element 20 whose head 75 engages the conveyer. The props 12 are associated with a further pair of props 14, each pair being mounted on a support frame I, II. Assuming that frame I has been advanced, the props 12 are extended and, when the setting pressure has built up, a valve (63, Fig. 2, not shown) in an hydraulic interlock circuit opens and the piston-cylinder unit 22 is energized thus exerting tension in the direction P and consequentially tensioning the remainder of the conveyer. If the pressure in the props 12 drops, or is lowered to permit advancement of the frame I, pressure to the unit 22 is automatically reduced and no tensioning force acts on the conveyer. A further valve (64) ensures that the unit 22 remains pressurized while support frame II is advancing. A double-acting hydraulic ram of a guiding and shifting means 11 enables the frames I, II to be advanced alternately. When the conveyer advances, the sensor 20 causes the ram 18 to be energized and by extending the anchor beam 17, the tension unit 22 is maintained parallel to the conveyer. In a modified arrangement, (Figs. 4, 5, not shown) a control unit (100) is mounted on the piston-rod of the tension unit (22) and includes three interlocking servo control valves (112, 114, 113) which, unless operated in sequence by sufficient pressure in the props 12, prevent actuation of the unit (22). In the event of pressure drop in the fluid supply, the tensioning means remains in operation.
