Abstract
1435557 Mining conveyers GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA 30 July 1973 [1 Aug 1972] 36080/73 Heading B8A In a mining installation comprising a conveyer 2 and a plurality of support units 1 in a longwall system wherein each unit 1 is provided with at least one roof support prop 15 and an advancing ram 3, the latter is capable of adopting either of two conditions when the support unit thereof is in an advanced position, namely a first condition in which movement of the conveyer towards the support unit is rigidly resisted and a second condition in which the conveyer is permitted to yield towards the support unit through a predetermined distance. The ram 3 acts on the conveyer by way of a pivotal cross-head 9 and a pair of bell crank levers 4 co-operating with brackets 5 having a pair of stop faces 10, 11. The ram 2 is also adapted to be connected by a valve 17 with an elastic pressure reservoir so that it can yield through a reserve stroke R equal to the distance X shown to allow passage of the winning machine. In a modification, see Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the bell crank lever system above is replaced by a pair of hydraulic aligning jacks disposed at the forward end of the bore of the support unit. The aligning jacks are pressurized to the same extent as the advancing jack and since their effective area of their pistons is at least twice as great as that of the piston of the advancing jack the latter has a reserve stroke R corresponding to the distance X allowed for " breathing " of the conveyer. Again the advancing jack and the aligning jacks may be connected by a valve with an elastic pressure reservoir according to the type of winning machine employed.
