Abstract

1,164,822. Advancing conveyors in mines. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 24 Jan., 1967 [28 Jan., 1966], No. 3966/66. Heading E1P. A conveyor 2 is advanced by a plurality of rams 1A, 1B .'.., ., each ram or group of rams having a control valve 10A, 10B ....interconnected by lines 13A, 13B . . . whereby operation of a particular control valve, 10B say, directs fluid from a supply line 4 through a line 13B to a previously operated valve 10A to cause its ram or ram group 1A to become pressurised through a line 12A to advance the conveyor, and the control valve 10B is thus in its operated condition to allow the passage of fluid to its ram or ram group 1B when subsequent operation of the valve 10C causes pressurisation of the line 13C. As shown, each valve controls a single ram and operation of the control valve of one ,ram directs fluid through one of the lines 13A, 13B &c., to the previously operated control valve of an adjacent ram, but in an alternative arrangement Fig. 2 (not shown) the previously operated control valve of the next but one ram receives the fluid. Pressurisation of the rams in the reverse order is achieved by operating the control valves 10A, 10B . . . in the reverse direction. The control valves may be operated manually, by remote control or by the movement along the conveyor of a mineral cutting machine 2D. When each control valve controls a plurality of rams, Fig. 3 (not shown) they are connected in parallel through non- return valves (20A, 20B . . .) to the line 12A, 12B ... &c. pressurised by operation of the control valves. In all embodiments each ram is provided with an individual, independently, locally or remotely operated valve 3A, 3B ... capable of causing extension or retraction of its ram.
