Abstract
1424750 Hardeners for photographic lightsensitive materials EASTMAN KODAK CO 27 Sept 1973 [29 Sept 1972(2)] 45376/73 Heading G2C Photographic materials contain a radiation- ,sensitive colloid layer, e.g. silver halide emulsion, zinc oxide/colloid or polycarbonate resin/colloid layer, hardened by addition of a hardener of one of the Formulae:- or a mixture thereof, where X is halogen e.g. chlorine or bromine, Q<SP>1</SP>, Q<SP>2</SP> and Q<SP>3</SP> are each a divalent saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group of 1-6 carbon atoms which may be substituted by phenyl, Q<SP>4</SP> is a divalent saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group of 1-6 carbon atoms, an alkylene-phenylenealkylene group or a phenyl-substituted methylene group, and m and n are each 0, 1, 2 or 3, the sum of m+n being 3 or less. A large number of hardeners is specified, including 1:1-bis (2- chloroethylsulphonyl)-methane, α:α-bis (2- chloroethylsulphonyl)-toluene, 1:1-bis (2- bromoethylsulphonyl)-ethane, 1:4-bis (vinylsulphonyl) but-2-ene, and α:α-bis (vinylsulphonyl) toluene. The hardener may be added to the coating composition for the radiation-sensitive layer before coating or the coated layer may be immersed a solution of the hardener. The hardener may also be used in a prehardener both for use after exposure but before development.
