Abstract

1424707 Tube mills CREUSOT-LOIRE 3 May 1973 [25 May 1972] 21108/73 Heading B2A [Also in Divisions F3 and F4] Apparatus for supporting and driving a large rotary drum 1 e.g. a rotary kiln or a mill having track rings 2 comprises support rollers 5 each incorporating a fixed shaft 6, means permitting the roller to pivot about an axis perpendicular to that of the shaft and substantially perpendicular to the direction of the load applied to the roller by the drum, a toothed ring 7 coaxial and angularly fast with the roller, a chassis 9 mounted on the roller and rotatable relative thereto, means for constraining the chassis against rotation with the roller, and a hydraulic motor 15 and pinion and for rotating the ring 7 and mounted on the chassis 9. The shaft 6 is mounted on shoes 17 and incorporates a segment 16 with a lining 162, the abutment of said segment 76 with said shaft 6 forming the pivot about which the roller is pivotable relative to the shaft. The chassis is rotationally immobilised by damping arms 13 and 14. The segment 16 carries a key 161 having a semicylindrical surface engaging a cup 61 in the fixed shaft. The chassis 9 is provided with stabilising rollers 10, 11 and 12 disposed axially and radially of said shaft and engaging an annular rib 71 on the ring 7. The space 23 forms an oil chamber from which oil may be distributed by channels (21, 22 Figs. 3 and 4) extending through the segment 16. A detector in one of the channels may be used to produce a signal proportional to the load supported by the roller, said signal being used to control the drive torque of a motor 15 thus controlling slipping of the roller.
