Abstract

1424533 Liquid-filled double-glazed units PILKINGTON BROS Ltd 14 March 1973 [21 March 1972] 13183/72 Heading E1R A double-glazed unit wherein the glazing is separated by spacers intermediate the units edges contains a liquid and is sealed above liquid level includes a liquid filled passageway connecting the unit to a reservoir, e.g. 16, which is subject to atmospheric pressure and the liquid level of which is adjacent the bottom of the unit. The passageway may comprise a siphon, Fig. 2 (not shown) or a tube 23 in the unit's bottom. The reservoir may be the bottom member 16 of a hollow frame and may be open either directly to atmosphere or via a liquid trap 25. Alternatively, the reservoir may be a tube 30 which may be open to the atmosphere or, to prevent evaporation, may have a piston on the liquid's surface or a flexible tube 33 which is closed at its upper end.
