1424411 Knitting machines SEMITEX AG 19 March 1973 [25 March 1972 14 June 1972 2 March 1973] 13129/73 Heading D1C In a circular knitting machine, lamellar electrical conducting members 22 are carried on the rotatable needle cylinder and each co-operates through a selecting device 15 with a needle 5, each member 22 being movable from a rest position to one of two opposite positions to actuate said selecting device 15 to control the raising of the needles by raising means. Needles 5 which are located in non-magnetic cylinder I by parts 6 and springs 7 have a pivoting point 8 near their centres engaged by an end 9' of a flexible spring 9 whose other end is secured to a ring 10 secured to cylinder 1. Cam 14 prevents spring 9 from raising needles except when knitting is to take place. Levers 16, 17 pivoted to partition members 3 integral with cylinder 1 are held in their last assumed position by an omega shaped spring 21 and have upper arms 16', 17' of different lengths with hook members 19 at their upper ends and projections 20 intermediate their length. Between their lower arms 16", 17" is the insulated end 22' of a member 22 pivoted on magnetic armatures 27 whose upper and lower arms 22", 22"' are electrically connected to contacts 30, 34 of cylinder 31 rotating with cylinder 1. Pulses are applied to members 22 by brushes 30', 34' engaging contacts 30, 34 which respectively have applied thereto a "zero" reference voltage and positive or negative pulses according to a pre-set programme. Movement of member 22 in direction F causes hook 19 of lever 16 to engage a hook 11 of needle 5 and prevents it from being raised and movement in direction F' causes hook 19 of lever 17 to engage hook 11 of needle 5 which allows it to reach its middle position. When member 22 is not moved, the needles can be wholly raised by the action of springs 9 under the control of cam 14. In another arrangement Fig. 2, the needle has a member 106 which can engage either of members 107, 107' which engage tracks 109, 109' formed inside and outside respectively of needle carrying cylinder 101. Member 122 moves needle 105 sideways to engage members 107, 107' when so selected. The tracks may alternatively be one above the other on the same side.-Members 222 may be mechanically actuated, Fig. 9, engaging slots 224 in members 223 which carry butts 225 which co-operate with sliding shoes.
