Mechanism for effecting adjustment of the stitch cams or the movable instruments of a circular machine comprises a number of rings concentric with the needle cylinder through which, either mechanically or electrically, selection is made from a radial bank of pins to effect the adjustment. As applied to a rotary cylinder- and-dial machine the radial bank of pins 30 is carried in an annular carrier 2 above the dial and is rotated synchronously with the dial and cylinder. The rings 10 form electrical conductors mounted in a stationary annular support 9 above the carrier 2 and are contacted by carbon brushes 19 coupled to solenoids 1 one of which is mounted above each pin 30 to effect its actuation. The rings are coupled electrically to micro-switches 12 operated by feelers 20 at the dictates of a pattern drum 38 such that operation of a switch 12 causes the associated solenoid to project its pin 30 which as it rotates with the carrier 2 then strikes a star wheel 15 coupled to a stitch cam to adjust the position of the cam. Instead of the rings being electrical conductors they may be coupled by flexible cables to the feelers and be rotatable within their support 9. In this case the rings carry studs which project downwardly and engage levers which project the pins as they rotate. Movement of the rings causes the pins to project at a time when they are passing the star wheels and thereby engage the wheels to adjust the cams.
