A pattern wheel 30, at each feed of a multifeed machine, is rotated through gears 16, 17, as the needle cylinder 15 rotates and those selectors 32 of which feeders 58 miss slots 37 or 38 in a common pattern band 35 driven by the wheels are rocked from the fullline to the chain-dotted line position on the left of Fig. 1. Meanwhile, a slide 53 on each part of a four-post control member 65 follows a cam surface 64 and, as each part rises, it engages and locks, in a corresponding- ly shaped recess 67 therein, the bevelled face of a lug 57 on any associated selector which has been rocked, lifting it to a position shown in full line on the right of Fig. 1. Under the influence of a cam 61 and a cam disc 62, a post 59 on each such selector depresses a needle operating jack 19, to render it inoperative. As the pattern wheel completes its revolution the appropriate one of cams 42 on the gear ring 16 engages a striker 44, to move a slide 48, causing associated members to open the entrance to and exit from a track in a cam segment 63, so that studs 54 on the slides 53 follow this track, to lower the parts of the control member 65, returning the selectors to their initial positions. The striker 44 is borne on a shaft 45 normally coupled to the slide 48 by a lever 46. By rotating the lever 46 through 180 degrees, to the chain-dotted position, Fig. 5, the cams 42 may be rendered ineffective.
