Abstract

A circular textile machine includes a pair of pref. pivotal actuator rods which have hooked upper ends for engagement with a hooked lower end of the needle, and a pref. pivotal selector plate is positioned with its upper end between the lower ends of the actuator rods and is movable under the action of an electromagnet to engage and pivot onr or other of the actuator rods, such that the actuator rod engages and actuates the needle. The actuator rods are pref. of different lengths so that they each move the needle to a knitting position at a different height for producing a pattern knit. Pref. the electromagnet produces a constant magnetic field around the actuator plate, and a current of a selected polarity is passed through the actuator plate according to a control programme to cause the actuator plate to pivot in one direction or the other to engage one or other of the actuator rods, the machine is used particularly for knitting stockings.
