Abstract

1424409 Tube mills DOMINION ENG WORKS LTD 15 May 1973 23085/73 Heading B2A [Also in Division F2] To facilitate starting a grinding mill which is driven from an electric motor 18 through a reduction gearbox 23 having two output shafts 25 which are connected by clutches 24 to pinions 12, 14 meshing a gear 16 fast with the mill, the motor 18 and reduction gearing is run up to speed prior to engagement of the clutches 24 so that the momentum of the gearing assists in starting the mill. The clutches may be pneumatically or hydraulically operated.
