Abstract

1424344 Transferring and re-orientating articles between conveyers METAL BOX Ltd 23 July 1973 [4 Aug 1972] 36433/72 Heading B8A Articles 10, which may be packs of three beer cans (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown), are converted from conveyance in succession in a direction parallel with their longitudinal axes, to conveyance in a direction at right angles to their longitudinal axes, or vice versa. As shown, each article 10 is successively pushed by the action of a feed conveyer 25, into a respective recess of a toothed transfer wheel 16. Friction between the nose of the article being fed and the tail of the -preceding article, helps to maintain correct orientating of the former. At the discharge station 28, each article is nudged on to a discharge conveyer 26 by the action of a point of a tooth of the wheel 16 (Fig. 5, not shown).
