Abstract

1423882 Centreless grinding RICHARDS MICRO-TOOL CO Inc 23 Oct 1973 [27 Nov 1972] 49389/73 Heading B3D A work holder and rotating mechanism for a centreless grinding machine comprises support means 30, 38 for rotatably supporting a workpiece W, a driving wheel 58 mounted for rotation and movably mounted to engage the workpiece and to be supported thereby so as to be movable towards and away from the workpiece during rotation, and means 62 for varying the pressure of the drive wheel against the workpiece. The support means consist of plates 30, 38 which have V-shaped recesses for rotatably supporting the workpiece and are adjustably mounted by blocks 28, 36 slidable along guideways 26, 34 on a support 24. A further block 46 is adjustable along guideway 26 and carries an adjustable holder 44 for an end stop 42. The support 24 is carried by a mount on a bed 12 longitudinally and transversely adjustable by handwheels 20, 22 on a base 10. The support is adjacent a grinding wheel 16 and carries a fixed arm 52 having a pivot 56 for an arm 54. One end of the arm carries the driving wheel 58 which is driven by a motor 60 and is urged against the workpiece with a pressure determined by the position of an adjustable weight 62. The axis of the driving wheel is inclined to that of the workpiece so that as the workpiece rotates it is also urged against the end stop. The arm is movable about the pivot 56 to an upper inoperative position for loading and unloading a workpiece.
