Abstract

1423823 Web coating apparatus DRG PACKAGING Ltd 2 March 1973 [3 March 1972] 10067/72 Addition to 1288041 Heading D1L A coating liquid is applied to the surface of a web 12 supported on an endless band (18) [Fig. 1, not shown] by means of a coating head 2 supplied with liquid under pressure, the head 2 including a member 40 drilled to provide pores of uniform bore uniformly distributed in the member through which the coating liquid is fed to the web. As illustrated the member 40 may be formed as the bottom plate of a coating chamber 30. A drilled block 34 e.g. of metal loaded epoxy resin may also be provided in the chamber. The upper run of the supporting endless belt is preferably supported by means of a box 50 having perforations in its upper surface through which air passes to impinge upon the lower surface of the belt (see Fig. 4, not shown). Doctoring or smoothing bars 46 are provided downstream of the liquid outlets, and heating channels 42 provided within the head 2 to maintain the coating liquid at a required temperature.
