Abstract
1423693 Hydraulic motors G SPIANTINI and G BARDONI [trading as SICAP DI GIANCARLO SPIANTINI & C SNC] 3 July 1973 [4 July 1972] 31678/73 Heading F1A [Also in Division F2] A device for controllably feeding material to a machine e.g. a press, by means of a rotatable shaft comprises two pairs of diametrically opposed pistons 2 reciprocable in cylinders 3 to drive the shaft in the form of two half shafts 6A, 6B, interconnected by a torsion link and pins 50, a rotary valve 53 driven by the half shaft 6A to control fluid supply to and exhaust from the cylinders and a fluid actuated brake having two half rings 63 surrounding the half shaft 6B and sprags 71 therebetween. The brake (see also Divison F2) is actuated by ingress of fluid to cylinders 67 via passages 68 to move pistons 66 which engage projections 64 on the ends of the half rings 63 and cause them to move towards each other against springs 69 which normally bias the rings 63 apart to allow rotation of the half shaft 6B. The valve 53 has a supply and exhaust passage 51, 52 respectively communicating with grooves 54, 55 which as the valve rotates sequentially communicate with passages 56-59 inclusive leading to the cylinders 3. To prevent excessive torsion on the half shaft 6B upon acuation of the brake, the passages 51 or 52 is throttled when fluid is delivered to the passages 68.
