Abstract
142,343. Hadwen, H. E., and Willis, H. June 19, 1919. Couplings. - For coupling electric conduits a sleeve of shape shown in section in Fig. 2 with tapered turned-over edges C is placed round the joint, and a tapered key D, shown in section in Fig. 3 and plan in Fig. 4, is slipped on the small end of the, tapered edges and forced along to clamp the sleeve. A recess E is provided opposite the turned-over edges, in which is placed a leaden plug G, which is flattened out on tightening the sleeve and secures a continuity of electrical contact. In a modification shown in Fig. 6 the sleeve is in two parts which are internally threaded to correspond with threads on the conduits, and the tapered edges C are engaged by keys as before. Leaden strips G are fitted on opposite sides of the tube, or a leaden sleeve G<1> may surround the ends of the conduits as shown in Fig. 10. Fig. 12 shows the application to junction-pieces in which cross-cuts P are made in the ends.
