Abstract
1423438 Tanning formulations BADISCHE ANILIN-& SODA FABRIK AG 30 March 1973 [1 April 1972 7 June 1972 7 Sept 1972] 15329/73 Heading C6C Tanning formulations comprise aqueous solutions containing formaldehyde in equilibrium with aldol condensation products of formaldehyde and one or more C 2-10 , w, #<SP>1</SP> -dialdehydes such that the molar ratio of free and combined formaldehyde to #, #<SP>1</SP> -dialdehyde in the aqueous solution is from 4:1 to 6:1, the equilibrium being one which is obtainable by mixing the aldehydes in the specified proportions and heating the mixture to 80 to 95‹C at a pH of from 5 to 7 in the abscence of a tertiary alkanolamine or at a pH of from 6À5 to 10 in the presence of tertiary alkanolamine. The invention also relates to tanning formulations comprising aqueous solution which have been obtained by mixing an aqueous C 2-10 #, #<SP>1</SP> -dialdehyde solution with an aqueous formaldehyde solution in amounts to provide 4 to 6 moles of formaldehyde per mole of #, #<SP>1</SP>- dialdehyde, and heating the mixture to from 80 to 95‹C. The #, #<SP>1</SP> -dialdehyde may be glyoxal, malondialdehyde, succinaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, adipaldehyde, pimelaldehyde or sebacaldehyde. The w, #<SP>1</SP> -dialdehyde(s) may be employed in the form of the complete acitals thereof e.g. in which the alcohol component contains from 1 to 10 carbon atoms. The tanning formulation may also contain a vegetable tanning agent and/or a synthetic tanning agent and/or a mineral tanning agent e.g. chrome and/or aluminium and/or zirconium tanning agents.
