Abstract

142,333. Turner, L. B. June 4, 1919. Receiving systems and apparatus; differential relays.-The windings W<1>, W<2>, Fig. 1, of a differentially-wound relay are connected in series with three-electrode valves T', T<2> respectively across a battery Ba, and the plate currents of the valves are adjusted until the operative effects of the windings W<1>, W<2> are balanced, The grid circuits of the valves contain a resistance R, an intermediate point of which is connected to the filaments of the valves, while the terminals of the resistance R are connected to signal leads L<1>, L<2>. When a current passes through the resistance R, the potentials of the grids G<1>, G<2> of valves are varied, and the relay is operated. Two or more valves connected in parallel may be employed. In the modification shown In Fig. 2, the signalling- circuit is connected to the grid circuit by means of a transformer P, S<1>, S<2>, and known arrangements of inductances I and capacities are employed to eliminate the effects of disturbing-currents. Amplifiers may be placed between tile line and the resistance R; or the resistance R may be placed in the plate circuit of the valve relay described in Specification 130,408.
