Abstract
1422978 Electrostatic coating apparatus; spray producers H JAGER 10 April 1973 [19 April 1972] 17164/73 Headings B2F and B2L Apparatus for electrostatically applying powder to a surface comprises an insulated container 11 for the powder, attached to an insulating handle 13 the container having an electrode 17 for charging the powder and the handle having vibrating means 41 to provide the powder with an initial acceleration to place it in the electrostatic field. The vibrator, which may be mounted additionally or alternatively on the container 11 comprises an electromagnet with poles 42, 43 which vibrate a plate 45. The electromagnet is adjustable to vary the amplitude of vibrations. An earthing switch which can be brought into contact with a plate 19 and hence earth electrode 17 comprises a spring urged rod 25 which can be locked as shown in Fig. I or can be released to contact plate 19. In a modification the container 11 is divided into two parts one acting as a supply hopper which feeds powder through an adjustable gap to a discharge chamber.
