Abstract

The gas passes through a housing containing an odd number of vertical plates, those plates in the odd rows being maintained at a high tension, either positive or negative, while those in the even rows and the housing itself are earthed. The gas is ionised and the suspended particles are charged with the same polarity. A primary fog of liquid droplets is pulverised mechanically in the space subject to the electric field. The gas flows horizontally from one end to the other of the unit between the plates, and those plates of the same polarity have spouts which electrostatically pulverise the trickle formed on them in the direction of the plates with opposite polarity.
