Abstract

1380321 Electrostatic precipitators CEILCOTE CO 21 July 1972 [22 July 1971] 34258/72 Heading B2J Apparatus for removing particulate matter from a gas stream comprises a contact zone 10 through which the gas passes after prior ionisation by electrodes 74, 76, the zone 10 being provided with nozzles 30 through which liquid is introduced to form a plurality of liquid surfaces and being earthed at 103 so that the liquid is maintained electrically neutral, whereby charged particles in the gas are attracted to the liquid and removed thereby. The contact zone 10 also contains a porous mass constituted, for example, by packing elements 26 of filamentary plastics dielectric material, ceramics, or conductive material, the packing may be in the form of spheres, corrugated elements, ring elements, &c. The ionising electrodes may be energised by direct or alternating voltages and may be cleaned by liquid, air or steam sprays, or mechanically by rapping, vibrating, &c. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1,321,735.
