Abstract

Insulators.-Electric insulators, particularly those of the type used as bushings, are provided with conducting- bodies placed adjacent the surface of the insulating- material and disposed so as to secure a substantially uniform distribution of potential over the surface of the insulator. As shown, an oil-filled insulating-bushing for a central conductor 10 comprises upper and lower insulating- portions 12, 13, the upper part only having one or more conducting-rings 15 - - 20 shaped so as not to coincide with the equipotential surfaces, for example S, S<1>. By suitably shaping and disposing the rings, any desired distribution of potential may be obtained. The same result may be obtained, it is stated, by connecting condensers having the required capacity between the structure 11 and the different points of the insulator surface.
