Protective a r - rangements. - An arc-gap protective arrangement is provided with means for varying the electrostatic flux field with varying moist u r e conditions. Means may also be provided for varying the flux field due to high-frequency currents when the electrodes dry. The electrodes 9, Fig. 2, are surrounded bv porous insulators 10 which are converted into conductors when moisture is present, thereby enlarging the areas of the electrodes and varying the field flue. The insulators 10 may be provided with conducting rings 15, Fig. 4, which provided a condenser action when the electrodes are subjected to high-frequency currents and the insulators 10 are dry. Adjustable plates 17 providing a greater condenser action may be provided. Specification 146,279 is referred to.
