Abstract

1422903 Static mixer SULZER BROS LTD 8 April 1974 [18 April 1973] 15405/74 Heading B1C A static mixer for fluent media comprises a conduit 1 having an insert 5a with layers of flow channels 6, the channels 6a in one layer being parallel, but inclined to those 6b of the adjacent layer, and being open to the channels of the adjacent layer in the region of the conduit wall but closed to them in the middle region. The channels of each layer may be defined by a corrugated sheet and separated from those of adjacent layers by flat intermediate sheets 8 which are cut away as at 8a in the region of the conduit walls so that all the channels 7 terminating thereat are open to one another. The cut-away may be triangular as shown, or polygonal; or the intermediate sheets may be rectangular but narrower than the conduit and centred therein. Such an insert 5a may be followed by an insert 5b which does not have the intermediate sheets and may be, as shown, rotated 90‹ about the flow axis in relation to the insert 5a. In another embodiment (see Fig. 2, not shown), the layers of the two inserts are continuous in the same plane, intermediate sheets 8 being inserted in the upstream part to form the insert 5a.
