Abstract
1422702 Vacuum insulated containers ALADDIN INDUSTRIES Inc 17 Jan 1973 [9 June 1972] 2399/73 Heading F4U In a vacuum insulated container comprising inner and outer walls 4, 6 bonded together at 16, the wall 6 is provided with an opening 22 into which a sealing plug 20 is fused after evacuation of the space 18 between the walls. The walls are made of glass or stainless steel and are fused together at 16, and the plug 20 is fused in the opening 22. To evacuate the space 18, the inverted container, with a bead 58 supported in the opening 22, is supported on the piston-rod 42 of a ram 44, Fig. 5, in a chamber 36 which is then evacuated by a pump 53. The bead 58 and the adjacent portion of the wall 6 are then heated by an infra-red lamp outside the chamber and adjacent to the chamber wall 54 which is transparent to infra-red radiation. The ram is then extended to force the softened bead against the undersurface of the wall 54 whereby the bead is deformed and fuses with the bottom of the container.
