Abstract
142,221. Gane, J., and Gane J. Feb. 19, 1919. Razors, safety. The blade of a safety razor, having a handle extending longitudinally from one end of a frame or comb b, is clamped on the comb &c. by a plate f hinged to the comb at the back edge thereof parallel with the blade edge and clamping the blade in proximity to the cutting-edge or between the cutting-edge and the longitudinal centre-line of the blade. A blade and clamping-plate f may be arranged at each side of the comb with plates f pressed on to the blades by a spring g, which is coiled around the hingepins e, and the ends of which engage tongues h projecting from the plates; or the ends of the spring may engage in the lugs by which the clamping-plates are pivoted on the hinge-pin. Projections on the comb engage perforations in the blades; or the clamping-plates may carry studs, which engage apertures in the blades. The blades may also have recesses which engage stop-hooks on the comb. The comb may be recessed to provide spaces communicating with the openings between the guard-teeth c. In a modification, the clamping-plates are maintained in operative position by a wedge-bar pivoted at the front end of the comb and secured in position by the end of a screw on the handle engaging an aperture in the the other end of the bar, the inclined sides of the bar coacting with the upper edges of the clamping-plates. In a further modification, the wedgebar is slidably arranged in the handle and is spring-controlled. In another form, a single blade is used, and a wedge-shaped locking-plate pivotally mounted on the comb engages a notch in a pin on the clamping-plate and projecting through the blade and comb.
