[Classes 30 and 131.] A hair-cutting appliance comprises a comb 15 having a handle at one end and teeth on its two side edges at the other, a protecting comb 17 having edges toothed for co-operation with the comb 15, and a safety razor or other blade 16 adjustably clamped therebetween. The blade may have parallel or tapered inclined edges and it may have normal apertures 20 or transverse slots, straight or arcuate and the adjustment may be such that one edge of the blade projects beyond the comb teeth to permit stropping. The clamping plates may be flat or transversely curved and the protecting comb plate 17 may be wider than or the same width as the comb 15. One side of the comb teeth of the protecting comb may be omitted as shown in Fig. 6 and the comb 15 at this side extended and formed with teeth 22 for normal hair combing. The clamping members may be screws 18, carried by the comb 15 or formed on a bar underlying the comb, and clamped either by separate nuts or by a single bifurcated spring member sprung over the enlarged heads of the screws. The protecting comb 17 is also slotted to permit its individual adjustment. In a modified form of adjustment the blade is formed with rack teeth on its ends engaged by pinions rotatable on and locked by the clamping screws. The blade may, as also may the clamping plates, be formed at their ends with projections or recesses to facilitate adjustment.
