Abstract

1421814 Radient burners ANTARGAZ SA 30 April 1973 [8 May 1972] 20536/73 Heading F4T A radiant burner comprises a fuel/air mixturereceiving chamber 2 bounded on one side by a radiation emission plate 7 allowing passage of said mixture therethrough for ignition on the outer surface of plate 7 in normal conditions of use whereby plate 7 becomes incandescent, an anti-convection screen 12, and an auxiliary radiating plate 15 of refractory material located between and spaced from plate 7 and screen 12 and having a multiplicity of channels 16 therethrough connecting the space 19 between plates 7 and 15 with the space 20 between plate 15 and screen 12. The plate 15 may be an apertured refractory metal plate having a solid/hollow ratio of about 2 and supported by lugs 17 on a frame 11 carrying screen 12, screen 12 and plate 15 being free to expand relative to frame 11. Frame 11, together with a frame 6 carrying plate 7 and an outer frame 14, prevent entry of secondary air into spaces 19, 20. The screen 12 may be a grill of woven refractory metal wire or punched or pierced expanded metal, and plate 7 may comprise a plurality of ceramic plates provided with passages 8 opening into channels 8<SP>1</SP> on the outer surface to increase radiation. The frame 11 may be of refractory metal insulated from plate 7 by a band of insulating material. The fuel may be gas or sprayed liquid. The burner is capable of reaching temperatures exeeding 1200‹ C. and of radiation up to about 40% of the power provided by fuel combustion.
