Abstract

1421338 Electro-coating with iron hydroxide INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd 28 Nov 1972 54845/72 Heading C7B [Also in Division H1] Metal foil, e.g. of Ni, Fe, Cu or an alloy of these metals, is activated for use as an electrode in a secondary battery by electro-deposition thereon of an active mass consisting substantially of iron hydroxide together with 1-20 wt per cent copper, from an aqueous electrolyte containing ferrous ions, nitrate ions and a soluble copper salt and having a pH of 0À5-3, and using a cathode current density of 10-100 mA/cm<SP>2</SP>. Sulphur may be introduced into the deposit during initial charging of the deposit.
