Abstract

Battery separator esp. for a Zn electrode comprises a thin sheet of regelated cellulose charged with >=1 component having a low electrochemical overvoltage for release of H2 or O2. The component is active carbon having a high surface area. The metal is Pt, Ni, Ag, Fe, Co or C in a finely divided state and is used in granules of 0.1-2.00 (pref. K10)mu. The cellulose can be completely satd. with the electrolyte.
