Abstract

Marks are recorded on a porous sheet impregnated with a soln. of an Ag salt by reducing the Ag salt to metallic Ag in the presence of an oxider or hydroxide of Mg, Mn, Cd, Zn, Ni or Al, and Ag. Pref. the recording is carried out by passing an electric current through the porous sheet, which is between an anode and a cathode. The porous sheet is pref. paper. The Ag salt may be introduced into soln. by electrolytic dissolution of an anode contg. metallic Ag, and the second metal may be introduced in this way. Suitable electrolytes are neutral water-soluble salts, e.g. alkali metal or ammonium chlorides, sulphates and nitrates.
