Abstract

1421016 Tufting machines; tufted materials KANEGAFUOHI CHEMICAL INDUSTRY CO LTD and YOSHITSUGU MATSUMURA 7 April 1973 16818/73 Headings D1G and D1K [Also in Division A4] A bight of a thread 'a' is inserted through backing fabric b by an eyed needle 1, the loop is transferred to a hooked needle 3 by an underlooper (6, Fig. 2 not shown) and draws back through the fabric b, an upper looper 8 then drawing the tuft ends through the loop. A hook member (10, Fig. 9 not shown) then carries the tuft end to a trimming device (12) comprising a heater or cutter edge. In a modification (Figs. 18 and 19 not shown) an auxiliary upper looper (14) pulls the tail of the tuft through the loop drawn through the original loop by looper 8, to produce a double tie-knot. The thread may be of hair and be implanted in net, cloth and synthetic resin plastics materials, to produce, for example a wig or false eyelashes. A multiplicity of needle units may be provided.
